LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEME
LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEME
- Repeal (get rid of) of law in process from June 2025 (about to get Royal Assent in 2026) of the UK's Pension Schemes Bill introducing the concept of "megafunds" that will give national government the right to take money out of any council works pension (Local Government Pension Scheme) without needing consent of the council / admin of the pension.
- Background on my Labour against pensioners page.
- Give members of councils works pension (the biggest works pension in UK) called Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), full membership-owned, trustee status, so government cannot downgrade and attack the council works pension in the future.
- Full trustee status helps control the investments and reduce fees and charges.
- Bring back Final Salary Pensions, starting from 1970s to 1980s born, with pension age 60 back, early access to works / private pension age 50 back and works pension age 50 for manual workers.
- For all pensioners, including the 1950s born ladies and JUST as 1960s born LADIES BEGIN TO RETIRE FINALLY, COUNCIL PENSION UNDER THREAT. Nigel Farage's potential ..."Reform government would block new entrants to local government pension schemes, which would be consolidated into a sovereign wealth fund, which Unison general secretary Andrea Egan condemned.
- “Attacking the pensions of council staff is a disastrous move. Employees would be denied a secure retirement income and it would worsen the recruitment crisis in local government,”
Unison general secretary Andrea Egan said. - This might happen anyway if Reform is voted into further councillor jobs in May's 2026 local council elections.
