..."Keir Starmer’s Labour ... 3 March 2025 ... "confirmed that it plans to farm out its ‘assisted dying’ programme to private companies who will operate them for profit. In the latest version of the plan, any corporate killings would be:

  • exempt from investigation by a coroner
  • exempt from licensing requirements, opening the door to a ‘corporate cottage’ death industry with no mandatory qualifications
  • exempt from regulation and any statutory duties
  • exempt from scrutiny by the UK’s Chief Medical Officer
  • only required to ‘have regard to’ – but not even to actually follow – an industry ‘code of practice’
  • allowed not to follow the code – ignoring it would be ‘not itself’ a problem
  • monitored be by a ‘Commissioner’ with no powers or teeth to force compliance – because there’s nothing such death factories would have to comply with, as long as the management ‘reasonably believes’ it is acting lawfully cannot be sued by families of those killed
  • In addition, the government would have to wait at least five years before reviewing how the legislation is working.

..."Care Not Killing has suggested that the jury is tainted by bias, noting that prior to reviewing evidence, an overwhelming 65% of its members were inclined towards supporting legislative changes on euthanasia.

Gordon MacDonald, CEO of Care Not Killing, expressed ongoing reservations about the jury’s integrity, stating in a now-deleted article on Christian Today that:

Most people would think that this makes a mockery of the term jury."...

..."In January, right-wing Labour MP Kim Leadbeater’s committee supposedly putting together the safeguards to prevent abuse of her ‘unfit for purpose‘ assisted dying bill was rightly criticised for voting to hold key discussions in secret, avoiding public scrutiny and raising serious doubts about her original claims that there would be full transparency in the debate and ample safeguards to protect vulnerable old and sick people from pressure to die.

In February, Leadbeater announced that the assisted suicide process would now not, as at first promised, require sign-off by a High Court judge – instead only needing approval by a social worker or psychiatrist"...

BACKGROUND FROM OUTSIDE UK

This is another reason why:

Assisted dying law..."rollout to children and the mentally ill in Belgium and the Netherlands, and evidence of coercion and a strong correlation to poverty in Canada."...

And here is the truth of it to us pensioners:

..."The government’s impact assessment has only exacerbated fears by predicting cost savings both for the NHS and for other areas of spending, including state pensions."...

INSUFFICIENT FUNDING OF END OF LIFE CARE

..."Many point to the double standard in the state relying on charities to provide palliative care but being prepared to funnel resources towards ending lives."...

Palliative / Hospice and Cuts to Disability Benefits - Yet more money for Assisted Dying

..."The government says the Assisted Dying Bill is about compassion. But when palliative care is underfunded and PIP is being slashed, what kind of “choice” is it really? Behind the cost-saving figures are thousands of vulnerable lives — and this bill could quietly sanction their deaths."...
