UK had four blast furnaces, which produced 80 per cent of UK's steel and provided thousands of decent jobs, but needed replacing between 2026 and 2035.

There were four operational blast furnaces in the UK that transformed coking coal into primary iron:
two at British Steel's operation in Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire, England, and
two had been at Port Talbot steelworks in Wales (now closed).
